The Archetype Making Modern Man Miserable
Since childhood, the average man has seen at least thousands, if not millions, images of women per day. As a result, he becomes inundated with a desire for sex so unnatural that it borders close to mental illness. What makes this worse is that this insanity becomes conditioned when society at large promotes this sickness and deems it a noble cause. The problem begins at a young age, but what happens in the mind to make it all go wrong?
It begins with a distortion of the hero’s journey paradigm. The classic quest of gold, dragons, princesses is slowly distorted into something more like an open-world video game with no real objective. What this means is that our quests have become too artificial, and our love for others more of a means of pleasure than salutary service. Early on this mindset is conditioned by the easy access to reward and the little need to wait for any sort of satisfaction. The many flashy images seen all around reinforce the sexual need above all. Work and study are only praised in the proportion they lead to more wealth, and subtly, in the minds of most men, this desire is often attached to the desire for sex. The Holy Trinity, with all the religious sentiment of the past that it stood for, has been replaced with the unholy heterodox notion of money, sex, and power. In the realm of the mind, we have apostatized from sanity for the sake of a little physical gain.
With religion on the decline in many cases, the mind of many modern men has replaced god with another entity. In the age of the monastics and contemplatives, there was a higher thought, an infinite being, to turn attention towards. The highest notions of love were to be found in the churches and within the spiritual realm. Now that this is gone, a suitable replacement has been a worship of sex. This is nothing short of a return to ancient paganism, detached from the intricate ceremonies intertwined with that old hedonism. As modern man searches for a replacement in meaning, he must struggle with this deep-seated adoration of women. Where can there be power, when the very presence of an attractive woman makes most men tremble? Where is the king ruling his kingdom? The national religion of the times has failed time and again. Many of the desires that are seen as something we deserve are oftentimes unattainable and not healthy. It is as if a synthetic dogma has been formed where the means of fulfilling the prescript are beyond the reach of the lay follower.
Sexual egotism has been a result of this distorted notion of viewing true power. It is true that an ability to love and cherish women is a sign of strength in a man, but mere sexual prowess is just a way of short-circuiting the brain into thinking that you’re a winner. It is the only “journey” that makes sense to a man, other than trying to make a financial killing. However, this will never be enough to make a man feel complete. He will be left miserable and empty if there is nothing more than this. There is a need, for something more, that is felt but cannot be described in words. I think that until the majority of men have tasted wealth and experienced the love of women, they will not follow the voice of deeper wisdom within. It is only until there is a more profound realization that these things don’t satisfy that the old dogmas will be put aside.
